Retiring Nurses Seek New Career Options
Liz Perry for Leaders in Healthcare – March 21, 2008
According to a new survey by by AMN Healthcare, more than one-third of baby boomer nurses plan to retire in the next one to three years. Respondents indicated they would then find a non-nursing job, work part-time, or work as travel nurses.
Over 1,250,000 nurses in the United States are between the ages of 45 and 60. With a good number set to retire, one option to consider is non-nursing healthcare. Need for administrators, public health professionals, health informatics experts, and long term care administrators continues to grow steadily. Many degree programs in these areas can be completed in less than two years, allowing individuals to complete education for the next stage of their careers before they retire.
