Study Shows Increase in On-Premise Technology

Liz Perry for Leaders in Healthcare – Feb. 21, 2008

According to a recent study by Gantry Group, LLC, Provider Clinical Technology Expenditures 2007, “Providers will broaden and deepen their adoption of clinical technology across all major clinical solution categories over the next year.“

The study is administered to gauge hospital executives’ investment plans over the next year. The results show significant investments in clinical technology, with almost half of providers allocating 40 percent or more of their current technology budget to these solutions.

For all clinical applications, providers will increasingly and rapidly adopt on-premise vendor solutions over the next 12 months. In general, there will be a shift away from custom in-house solutions and hosted (ASP) vendor solutions, and a drastic decrease in commitments to outsourcers. This internalization of technology requires additional support – technicians and managers who are highly knowledgeable in both healthcare and technology. Many new job opportunities are likely to result.
