Tennessee Launches First Statewide Electronic Patient Information System
Liz Perry for Leaders in Healthcare – Feb. 28, 2008
AT&T Inc. is helping the State of Tennessee launch the nation's first statewide system to electronically exchange patient medical information. The telecommunications company has designed a system to securely transmit detailed patient information between medical professionals. Doctors will be able to access medical histories, prescribe medicines over the Web, and transfer images like X-rays and CT scans. Doctors can also use the system to remotely evaluate patients in rural areas and link to the state Department of Health for access to the immunization and disease registry, death certificate processing, and medical license renewals. The system is already in place and will be fine-tuned throughout the remainder of the year.
